Project Goals

Harnessing a B2B Enterprise Platform to Create Consumer-Focused Value

Resonai's digital twin platform initially focused on helping building owners manage and navigate daily facility maintenance but wanted to offer more value to potential retail property clients considering a digital transformation.

A new marketing division worked to expand the platform with a mobile app offering interactive AR experiences & retail-centric features to help consumers explore and interact with the properties.

Augmented Reality interfaces need high visibility against diverse contrasting backgrounds while maintaining enough of the camera’s view for the safety and usability of users navigating their surroundings through their phone.

Navigation-Focused Platform

Since location mapping was the digital twin platform's core function, AR experience designs were limited to either wayfinding & functions related to visiting locations, or stationary interactive content.

Extended Value Features

To provide lasting value beyond novelty AR features, the platform needed to gain consumer loyalty, with time-based promotions & e-commerce integrations needed to build customer retention.

Overview

Outcomes

Going Beyond Function with Elevated Design Language & Playful Interactivity to Engage Consumers

The premium-feeling user interface, combined with a rich feature set and novel interactive content proposals, helped the client form new relationships with several high-end property owners and multinational retail conglomerates, and feature as a frontrunner in XR technology at the Augmented World Expo conference.

My experience both as a brand designer with an intuitive grasp of design aesthetics, and as a games UX designer organizing complex information in multilayered digital spaces was instrumental in creating a product that exceeded expectations with its novelty and freshness.

Scalable Modular UI

The two main collectible items, Minifigures and Sets, each have several upgradable metrics that users needed to know to plan their resource expenditure for and compare for battle strategies. These collectibles needed to be represented on a majority of screens, often in long lists, in multiple states, and small spaces.

We created an atomic design system: a 2D portrait or animated 3D model, curved colored backer, name, and 3–6 quantifiers, combined into flexible ‘molecules’ tailored to each screen’s needs. Despite many variations, the consistent design language kept information recognizable, helping players quickly find what they needed to strategize.

Digital Concierge Demo App

Building on the platform’s core digital twin mapping and navigation capabilities, we created a demo app to pitch luxury mall clients that shifted focus from facilities management to customer-facing features, showcasing engaging AR experiences and retail business integrations, all wrapped in a premium user interface.

Consistency to Foster Familiarity

Unlike common digital products & apps - which start with broad access to everything and become a more streamlined, focused experience as users develop habits & usage patterns - complex games do the opposite: they begin with a narrow, guided first-time user experience and gradually unlock complexity over time by hitting progression metrics.

This measured ramp-up prevents user overwhelm and churn, but means retention relies on successfully building comfort and familiarity with a vast system of features & interfaces.

Our design system maintained consistency & clarity in modular design tokens across 50+ unique screens and popups, ensuring core interactions felt familiar and intuitive as users progressed deeper into the game.

Showcasing Tactile Play

To celebrate Lego's 60+ year legacy of the joy it has brought worldwide, we designed fun, whimsical interactions with the core brand products, the Minifigures and Sets.

Immersive diegetic spaces were woven into gameplay features, showcasing a variety of classic and modern Lego, allowing users to interact with digital versions of the tactile originals to capture the feeling of building & imaginative play.

Sales & Pitch Presentations

To sell potential clients on our newly developed app and its numerous concepts, we needed a pitch deck that matched the modern, sleek UI design. We conducted a branding exercise to elevate Resonai's sales & conference materials through refined typography, brand imagery, and clean, minimalist deck layouts.

Shorthand iconography shows the many complex status effects that heroes can have during battle, but we don’t expect users to always remember their meaning, so a tap & hold on any minifigure on the battlefield reveals all the information a user might need to know to make their next move.
